Universal Credit is a payment to help with living costs which is paid monthly. It has replaced Child Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance and Workers Tax Credit.
You can apply for Universal Credit online. You will need to provide banking details, an email address, housing information, financial details and childcare costs. The Universal Credit team might phone you after you’ve sent your application if they need more information or if you cannot verify your identity online.

Citizens Advice For further information on Universal Credit and other benefit options
The Exceptional Hardship fund provides a range of support for individuals experiencing great difficulty due to COVID-19. To apply for this funding visit the local welfare assistance page here: https://ealing-gwa.egovhub.net/Gwa/launch or telephone 020 8825 6237.
You will need to select one of the given reasons to apply for the fund and provide your National Insurance Number, benefit information, details about your partner, children and the assistance you need.
There are a number of ways that Ealing Council are helping residents pay for their council tax during the Coronavirus outbreak:
- If you are Self Employed and live and pay council tax in Ealing you can defer your council tax payment by up to six months. These measures are in addition to the council tax reduction scheme that you may be also be eligible for. You will need to provide evidence that you are self employed by registering for an online account
- If you do not qualify for council tax reduction, the council will provide residents the option to defer payment of council tax for up to three months. You will be asked to provide a verbal or written statement of hardship which you can do by registering for an online account or calling the council’s contact centre on 020 8825 7050
- The council is also offering support to residents to pay their bills in a flexible way with preferential payment terms. Please contact the council tax team on 020 8825 7050 to discuss the options available.
The council can also make Discretionary Housing Payments & Discretionary Council Tax Discounts. These are separate payments made at the council's discretion in cases where it considers that extra help with housing costs are needed.

The Family Fund provides grants to families on low incomes who have disabilities or severe medical conditions. Family Fund has received extra funding worth £10 million from the Department for Education to provide grants for families on low incomes raising disabled or seriously ill children in England this year.
This emergency funding has been provided in response to the crisis presented by the Coronavirus pandemic and will help more parents and carers to look after their children. Families can apply for grants to make their lives easier while implementing social distancing measures, including computers and tablets, outdoor play equipment and sensory toys.

Ealing Salvation Army Baby Bank is still running and able to support families with young children in need of supplies. Families need to phone: 020 8840 0348 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange what they need and when it can be dropped off.
